Let’s Cook: Spaghetti

First off, let me tell you that I am not a chef nor am I a self-proclaimed cook. Seriously, I’m not. I believe that I only learned how to cook when I was about 22 years old and that was because I lived in a condo alone so I had no choice. Hehe! I love buying food in most days because I can be pretty lazy BUT when I do feel like cooking, I normally go with my favorite ones. Today is my day off and I decided to cook some spaghetti. One of the ingredients for making spaghetti is ground beef but I didn’t have any so instead of going to the grocery store, I decided to work with whatever it is that I have at home – like I said, I can be lazy at times. LOL! Here are my Ingredients:

This Del Monte Spaghetti sauce already comes with several bits of Purefoods’ Tender Juicy hotdogs so I didn’t have to cut hotdogs anymore. I have mentioned in my previous posts that I have been trying to live a slightly healthy lifestyle and so I have been avoiding rice a lot. Nowadays, I probably just eat a cup of rice like once a week. I don’t miss it that much anyway so it’s all good. At times when I feel like consuming a little more carbohydrates, instead of rice, I go with pasta. Right now, I’m into El Real’s Healthy Spaghetti since it comes with real malunggay and carrot bits. These are vegetables that I don’t normally get to eat (since I don’t eat vegetables) but with El Real’s healthy spaghetti, I am able to get some of the nutrients I need without losing my appetite. Haha!

Since I didn’t have any stocks of ground beef in my refrigerator, I decided to use CDO Ulam Burger. This is actually perfect to use because the burgers are already packed with flavors and so when you mix it with your spaghetti sauce, it will become tastier. For my meal, I decided to use just 2 pieces of burgers but feel free to add more if you like. I cut each burger into tiny pieces to resemble ground beef.

The other ingredients are: Ketchup, Hot Sauce, Parmesan Cheese, Onions and Garlic. Again, I didn’t feel like chopping fresh garlic and onions and so I opted to use the minced onions that I bought at the grocery store and the crispy fried garlic that I got from my parents’ house. I used Parmesan cheese because I love its taste and also because it’s already grated (haha) but if you prefer other types of cheese, it’s all good too. 🙂

Step 1: Pour some oil. Put the burger bits in the pan and cook for about 2 minutes.

Step 2: Add about 1 teaspoon of minced onions into the pan and stir.

Step 3: Add a teaspoon of crispy fried garlic into the pan. If you are crazy over garlic, I encourage you to add more. 🙂

Step 4: Mix the ingredients (burger bits, onions, garlic) together for 1 minute.

Step 5: Pour the Spaghetti sauce into the pan.

Step 6: Stir well.

Step 7: Pour 3-4 tablespoons of Ketchup into the pan. I like using Ketchup to make the color of the sauce richer. If you don’t like Ketchup, you can skip this part.

Step 8: Stir well.

Step 9: This is also optional. I love adding a little spice into whatever I eat so I poured a teaspoon of the hot sauce into the pan. If you don’t like that extra kick, skip this part too. Keep stirring for 1-2 minutes. Once cooked, set it aside.

Step 10: Boil 2 cups of water. Add a pinch of salt and half a teaspoon of oil into the pot. Then, put the pasta in the pot. I didn’t cook a lot of pasta because I didn’t want to consume too much but if you feel like eating more, go ahead and put more pasta. 🙂

Make sure not to overcook your pasta. ^_^

  1. Spaghetti is my absolute comfort food, so I could have an empty fridge but I should have spaghetti ingredients at hand always. Spag sauce with hotdogs already inside the pack is a godsend for lazygirl days. :p
